CLASS OVERVIEW

on-camera commercial Class Description

 

Introduction to Acting for Commercials

 

This class is structured to introduce the fundamentals every actor needs to know who will act in commercials.  The vocabulary belonging to commercials, knowing his or her type, understanding the actor’s selling points, making the most of wardrobe, understanding product image, and the audition process.  Weekly practice will be given to camerawork, reading commercial copy, storyboards, and cue cards, as well as understanding the variety of commercial categories.

Saturdays, 10:00am-12:30pm; 10 week course is $500

 

 

 

Teen’s Acting for the Camera

 

The focus of this class will be to free young people from the self-consciousness that comes with the teen years and acting for the camera.  The tools include television terminology, cold reading, cue cards, framing, audition and interview techniques - - along with understanding the relationship, between the body and the camera – when talking, walking, sitting and using props.  Familiarity of seeing him or herself and others on camera, improvisation and the use of playing games will heighten each actor’s willingness to take risks.  Understanding his or her commercial type, storyboards, commercial copy, and their various categories will set each student up to do their best by demystifying the process and encouraging the mastery of his or her genuine personality.  Weekly practice will be given to camerawork.

Saturdays, 1:00pm-3:30pm; 10 week course is $500

 

 

 

Audition Techniques

 

The focus of this class will be to prepare students for auditioning.  Tools of the trade will be talked about along with the functions of the agent, the manager, the casting director, and the publicist; the procedures of establishing relationships with the various industry people.  The distinctive skills and technical demands of auditioning for commercials, television, film, and theater will be covered.  The curriculum is designed to meet the fundamental needs of the beginner actor, while sharpening the skills of the intermediate actor, and refining the abilities of the seasoned actor.  Weekly practice will be given to camerawork.

Saturdays, 3:30pm-6:00pm; 10 week course is $500

  Q:  How much do classes cost?
A:  $500 for a 10-week session.
Q:  How do I pay?
A:  Cash or check – 50% deposit, prior to your first class. Balance due on the first day of class. No late payments.
Q:  How do I know I’ll be good at it?
A:  You don’t, but even if you don’t pursue commercial acting professionally, your confidence will grow and you’ll have a better grasp on how to present your best self.
Q:  What skills will I pick up from your studio?
A:  Presentation skills, script analysis skills, understanding ad types, self-type knowledge, show business knowledge, and presenting yourself as a professional.
Q:  Do I need a text book?
A:  No.  Any worksheets used will be provided.
Q:  Will you give career advice?
A:  Yes, upon request.
Q:  Will I get an agent?
A:  You’ll be equipped with tools for auditioning well and performing well, which can attract an agent.  Introductions to agents will be made on a case-by-case basis.  No guarantee can be made.
Q:  Will there be opportunities to meet industry people?
A:  At the discretion of the teachers, referrals will be given for external industry showcases to students who are ready to attend professional auditions.
Q: Am I allowed to take more than one class at a time?
A: Yes.
